Electrically Heated, Thermionic Ceramic Ion Sources

The combination of DET’s Thermionic Ceramic Ion Sources and NPD type equipment provides selective GC chromatograms unlike any other detector. The many different detection modes, detection equipment, and applications investigated by DET over the years are described in the accompanying Comprehensive Summary Brochure

TID-2 and TID-4 ceramic ion sources are widely used in NPD equipment on Thermo, Agilent, and some other GC models for selective detection of compounds containing “N” or “P” atoms (Pesticides, Drugs, etc.) A TID-10 ion source converts that NPD equipment to selective detection of compounds containing “O” which is the most common  heteroatom in organic chemistry. This added capability greatly expands applications (Flavors, Fragrances, etc.) for the same basic equipment. A TID-10 ion source is also used in the Catalytic Combustion Ionization (CCID) mode of detection which is selective to compounds containing chains of CH2 groups ( Paraffins, FAMEs, etc.)
